The men's bathroom at the USU provides some interesting conversation. Here someone asks whoever reads this to beat the shit out of whoever stole their bike, with the supposed stealer responding.

Hall of Sciences construction
Construction on the new PH3 Hall of Sciences building construction is humming along. They're apparently trying to make the ground smooth and flat before starting a foundation. The Daily 49er has an article titled "Hall of Science will allow more extensive research" with a wider angle. I like this shot better because it shows the workers at work.

Florescent lighting
As a photographer, I love lighting and how it can set the mood. Backlighting can make pictures terrible. There's an entire industry devoted to multiple and off-camera flash lighting. I've always regarded the florescent lighting in the Beach Cruiser shuttle to be ridiculous but yet alluring at the same time. I took this image at night and was struck by how interesting the blonde hair stood out in the florescent lighting.

Clothesline Project
The Clothesline Project was out again for the month of October to spread awareness about domestic violence. Here, freshman photography major Nicole Casares looks at some of the T-shirts. I have posted this picture as a protest, beacause the Daily 49er chose to publish the safer, less provocative, "I don't need you (or your sex) to feel good about myself" one.

University by the Sea
The University by the Sea event took place today in downtown Long Beach. Classes were held, a couple of street blocks were roped off, and there were booths, fun, and music. This picture here is of dance instructor Peter Araiza (CSULB alumni '07) leading a group of people in a dance. He described the move (where people moved in and out of a circle) as "merengue mixed with elements of rudea de Casino."

Camera installation
Long Chang from Moore Electric installs a surveillance camera around campus. This one was just outside the SSPA building, on the light post closest to the shuttle stop for the Beach Cruiser service. The Daily 49er has an article titled "Cameras secure CSULB" that discusses the new cameras.

Boxing at the Pyramid
The DG Boxing Club held a boxing show today, consisting of 40 bouts. Ages ranged from as young as 10 years old to about 30 years old. There were two rings and a short intermission after the 12th bouts from each ring. In the above picture, Moises Orozco (LB DG) fights Anthony Zavala (The Rock). Orozco won the bout.

Active shooter drill
Spectators stand in awe as armed and masked Cal State Long Beach police officers station around campus to do an "active shooter drill," primarily on the upper campus near the McIntosh building. This shot was taken as the police officer passed behind in front of the LH building.
Brian Cuaron wrote a story titled "Police perform school shooter simulation drill."

Kid Eco Fair
Kids were introduced and learned about the enviornment and why it was important to protect it. Here kids look at the bicycles that the police are now using for patrols.
The online edition of the Daily Forty-Niner has an article titled "Recycling Center Holds Eco-Friendly Fair."

Alexander arrives in newsroom
President F. King Alexander pays a visit to the Daily 49er newsroom. He stayed there for about thirty minutes, from about 2:41 p.m. to 3:13 p.m. (times are approximate), discussing the current coyote issue and other questions the Daily 49er staff had for him.

A heron takes flight
Over at the Earl Burns Miller Japanese gardens origami festival, a heron took flight today. Two Nikon shooters and me were taking shots and calling to the bird when it opened its wings and took off.
